Kruidkoek

Kruidkoek is a derailed boyhood dream. Four close friends found their musical outlet in a band where they can push their limits and broaden their horizons in a visually-appealing way without making concessions. Dance videos, jazz clubs, self-constructed lightboxes, pop festivals, poets, kid’s shows, bickering in the studio, and laughing on the tourbus: it’s like a 90’s MTV on-the-road reality show.

Since 2014, the boys have been steadily building their career. They’ve released 3 EPs and 3 albums, with countless adventures along the way, through their own blend of jazz, rock, Tarantino films, and their own bizarre concoction were renamed GarageJazz.

From Cairo to the Fruitcorso in Tiel, from Popronde to Paradiso, from the Bimhuis to the Parade, dozens of people have since come to know the funnest band in the world (to play in).  After more than 10 years, their sights are all set on the future: their (inevitable) breakthrough in Japan.

At the end of 2023, one of the band’s biggest dreams came true: a stack of Kruidkoek classics was adapted and performed with the 12-member Spicecake Chunky, a doubled line-up with a fat brass section. The Spicecake Chunky LIVE EP is scheduled for release in Fall 2024.

For schools and for the whole family, Kruidkoek has travelled around the whole of the Netherlands and Flanders with an interactive musical, De Muziemagnetron, where both band and audience make musical choices while baking a giant spicecake in a giant microwave.

Together with writer and poet Joost Oomen, Kruidkoek created two shows at the intersection of music and poetry under production house Explore the North: Vruchtjes Eten (2019) and Tuut Tuut Kwantumschuim (2022).
