New video clip for the song 'Makkum' by Zea
8 Jan 2026

A two-minute-forty-four-second snare drum drone that sounds like a wave slowly creeping up the beach. The dark bass drum heartbeat of the earth beneath it. The ominous lira melody that falls into the village like drops of water through a concrete layer of clouds. The voice that walks through the streets and calls them out by name, one by one.

Filmmaker Ester Eva Damen picked up the song Makkum by Zea, held it up to the light, and from that came the video clip below.

As the water flows through the streets of the Frisian coastal town of Makkum, Damen lets the drum shine in the sun. The drum, the ultimate means of communication, breaks through the clouds and forges a village into a community.

Zea will be performing a few more times together with DRUMBAND HALLELUJAH MAKKUM:

17 januari – Makkum, Nieuwjaarsconcert
5 februari – Amsterdam, BIMHUIS (met vele gasten)
20 maart – Leiden, Peel Slowly and See Festival
