Jules van Hulst

Jules van Hulst (Nijmegen, 1984) is a visual artist—originally a painter but later developed into a media artist. His video work is often combined with a live aspect, and his narratives are predominately mystical in nature. Van Hulst was a member of the internationally acclaimed Collective 33⅓ for ten years.  With it, he developed several musical theater performances and site-specific installations. His Blauwbaard (2011) was awarded 3 stars by the New York Times. In 2016, Van Hulst made his solo debut with the content and direction of the opening piece of Classical Next and the production of Owen Wingrave at Opera Bastille. Since then, Van Hulst’s work has included a short film with Douwe Dijkstra, but has mostly sought to find a connection with poetry.
