The world-renowned writer and sociologist Édouard Louis is coming to our festival in November! The French writer is known for his highly-personal, autobiographical novels about his family, his homosexuality in a homophobic environment, racism, and growing up in a working-class family in northern France.
Édouard Louis made his breakthrough in 2014 with his first novel, The End of Eddy. This November will see the publication of the sixth and final installment of this (family) series, entitled L’effondrement (The Collapse). Édouard Louis’ work has been translated all over the world, adapted for film, and even more notably, adapted for the stage.
Édouard Louis will be joining us (and ILFU in Utrecht) for a discussion with fellow writer and friend Raoul de Jong. They will of course be discussing Louis’ new novel and looking back on all the installments of the family project. Video clips and actors’ readings will highlight all the important themes in Édouard Louis’ work. We anticipate a special evening, with a candid conversation about his entire oeuvre, enriched with footage from the various theatrical adaptations of his work.
This program around Édouard Louis is a collaboration between Explore the North and ILFU (International Literature Festival Utrecht). The writer will also be appearing at ILFU on Monday, November 24, at the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht.
