Rough seas on the dance floor
Floating on a raging Wadden Sea in a small sailboat – you would think there are better places to make a debut record. Yet that is exactly what the duo Velocity Made Good did. They marooned themselves at sea with a mountain of microphones and electronics. And yes, that sounds like the equivalent of taking a bath with a toaster. But dammit, it worked. Members Thomas Venema and Wytse Dijkstra – you may remember them from The Resurrection – returned to dry land with an energetic record combining electronic music with a gritty, clunky rock sound.
Since then, Velocity Made Good has been bringing the high seas to a lot of dance floors. At Into The Great Wide Open and MadNes, for a second it seemed that the audience would single-handedly steamroll on, island-hopping towards the mainland. It was not for nothing that last year the duo was nominated as ‘Talent of the Year’ by Popgala Noord of Eurosonic/Noorderslag. Have you missed it so far? Well, don’t let it happen again. Especially not if you love acts like Underworld, The Stone Roses and 808 State.
