“Here, it matters what I say” – Mina Etemad
FOR REAL is a theatrical radio show about what it means to matter. The starting point is intellectual undermining of women: the lack of interest in what they think, say, make or try to achieve.
As a visitor, take a seat in a radio studio where you will hear the voices of fourteen women over the speakers. They recount that kind of subversion from their own experiences of sexism toward the mind and soul, professionally and personally. How does it affect your self-esteem, confidence, relationships and—ultimately—the way that life unfolds?
The audience then helps complete this research when the musicians begin to interview them about these topics. The interviews are accompanied by a new improvisational technique, where the musicians support these vulnerable and open exchanges with instruments.
Every iteration of FOR REAL is recorded* and published as a podcast episode. By doing this, we create a collection of ideas and voices about what it means to matter — to have worth, to feel understood, and to be taken seriously.

This project has already made a lasting impression at (among others) O. Festival and in de Balie (Amsterdam). “This is art that does what art should do: thinks and makes people think, creates room for discussion, embraces dissent — and, through that dialogue of shared experience, connects. Let’s support that, instead of activism packaged as art with only one outcome in mind. Because it’s through these kinds of performances that we plant the seeds of change. Or, as one of the recorded voices so beautifully puts it: All of this is something we have made. There is nothing about the world as it is now that we can’t completely redo.” -Gaea Schoeters.
