Triple Hit
Sometimes you look back and think: it had to happen this way. That’s the feeling you get when you listen to Deep Pockets, the single released by three acclaimed solo artists – Pitou, Naaz, and LUWTEN – who joined forces for the first time. The song was born from a chance meeting in 2017, when the three were interviewed together about their musical ambitions. They stayed in touch, attended each other’s shows, and finally, years later, found the time for a joint songwriting retreat. Strumming guitars, improvising, each working on their own verse… only to discover that their separate lines seamlessly wove together into a warm, hopeful song about precisely this idea: that life must be lived forward, though we often only make sense of it in hindsight. However life may unfold in the meantime, don’t miss the harmonies of three of the Netherlands’ finest voices. It might just be exactly where you needed to be at that moment. (Though you’ll only realize it afterwards.)
Pitou
Amsterdam-born artist Pitou released her debut album Big Tear last year, blending her background as a member of the National Children’s Choir with her intuitive songwriting style. Known for her intense live performances, she was named one of 2023’s breakthrough talents. Her album appeared in several Dutch newspapers’ “Best of 2023” lists.
LUWTEN
Under the name LUWTEN, Tessa Douwstra crafts music with a keen eye for detail, inspired by her personal holy trinity of minimal music, R&B, and indie folk. With her acclaimed debut and second album, she toured across Europe. She is currently working on her third album, following Draft, which won the 3voor12 Award for Dutch Album of the Year.
Naaz
Naaz is a Kurdish, independent artist born and raised in the Netherlands in a migrant household. Her work fuses different art forms and cultures into an idiosyncratic blend of English and Kurdish alternative music, exploring what freedom means for people from the diaspora. She has toured Europe four times and received multiple awards, including two Edisons and film festival prizes for her visuals.
