NAH – a percussionist and audiovisual artist from Philadelphia, now based in Belgium – doesn’t care for genres. In fact, he tears through them at breakneck speed. If you really need a list of ingredients: take DIY punk, noise, avant-jazz, hip-hop, and dark ambient, toss them into a blender, and crank it to max. Keep going until the foam is spilling over. That’s roughly the energy of NAH’s live shows.
Armed with little more than a drum kit and a battery of samplers, he constructs collage-like tracks that teeter between fury and playfulness. On his latest album, Totally Recalled, it’s “the madness of modern existence” that has found its way into his drums. A high-octane fever dream at 300 BPM: part extreme sport, part sonic overload, and completely impossible to stand still through.
