The fire to the floor
Kenyan by descent, but born and raised in Kampala (Uganda), where she is an important member of the Nyege Nyege crew, the great rapper MC Yallah has been active in the hip-hop scene for almost twenty years. She brings a combination of conscious and futuristic hip-hop, grime, punk and trap. Her signature style is a rare fast and tightly controlled flow in one or more languages (Kiswahili, Luganda, English and Luo). The lyrics are fierce and intense, draw on real life experiences, often deal with women’s issues and spread a powerful message of integrity and self-determination. She collaborates live and on her records with Debmaster, the eclectic French producer behind many of the exciting releases on Uganda’s Hakuna Kulala label. And oh yes… this duo is an absolute sensation on stage! They bring the fire to the floor!
“On their own, Debmaster’s glitched-out productions provide charged beats and a surplus of hyperactive energy. Fortified with a voice as captivating as Kenya’s MC Yallah and you’ve got Kubali, a fierce example of how rap and dance music communities can join forces to push each other forward.”
