Drifting away without getting cold
‘Drifting’ is the new musical production of Laguna, the brainchild of songwriter Bente Hout. During production, she worked with an all-female artistic team of producers, musicians, sound engineers and visual artists. The EP won’t be released until 2025 – but at our festival you’ll be the very very very first to hear it in an exclusive preview!
In her dark, electronic pop music, Laguna is candid about being restless and alone at a stage in life when people are drifting away from her and nothing seems to be unconditional. What does that sound like? Think: Sevdaliza. Think: Thomas Azier. Think: Fever Ray and FKA Twigs. Expect danceable pieces, too, because especially for this first show, Hout collaborated with DJ/producer MIKKL (Maaike Schrikker) to create extended electronic mixes of her work.
Are you thinking: hell, that Bente looks familiar. Do I know her? Maybe so. For five years she was the frontwoman of dreampop band Sväva, who she performed with at just about every renowned indie and underground festival there is. You may also have heard her music during a lavish night of Netflix watching; after all, the Sväva single “Huntress” made it to the soundtrack of the popular series, 13 Reasons Why. Fun fact: Michelle Hindriks (formerly active in Sväva, now based in Brighton with CIEL) co-wrote ‘Drifting’ and will also make her appearance during the show at our festival.
Drifting is made possible by Popfabryk and the Culture Fund.
