Protest Songs by Young Writers

Is it a concert? A song cycle? A piece of musical theatre? A poetic indie non-opera? One thing is certain: this new project by the Young Writers defies easy categorization.

Four young writers, aged 15 to 18, each created a series of protest songs. They put into words the things that make them angry, afraid, or that they want to change. About the right to be who you are. About a boy’s life spiraling out of control because he doesn’t have a place to live. About a woman who wants to be a man for just one day. About racism and the impact it has on a young life. And much more.

Their words take on powerful musical form, performed by a four-piece professional band. A raw, honest, and gripping production in which the voices of young protest ring out loud and clear!

About Young Writers
Explore the North and Meeuw jonge theatermakers train talented young authors (aged 14–18) from Friesland. Twice a year, a series of workshops begins in which these budding writers are taught various aspects of the writing craft by experienced instructors. The young participants first learn general writing skills and are introduced to different genres such as drama, prose, and poetry.
