Singer-songwriter Jonas Ringtved sounds as if he rose straight out of a dusty cornfield in Tennessee, but his roots lie in Aalborg, Denmark. As a child, he fell in love with the music of Johnny Cash thanks to his father — and now we get to reap the rewards. Ringtved’s lived-in baritone is perfectly suited for melancholic country and folk.
Taming life itself hasn’t quite worked out for him (by his own admission), but through music, Ringtved found a way to grab it by the horns. The lessons he learned growing up in North Jutland — including a few rough episodes that give extra weight to his lyrics — are shared with raw honesty on his debut album Leftover Hippies.
How do you stay standing when life knocks you down? That’s the question Ringtved wants to explore — and he’s more than willing to share his answers with anyone who’ll listen.
