Making history together – this time with women

WikiWomen has a double mission: more women as well as more minority languages – like Frisian – on Wikipedia. Would you like to contribute to a more inclusive and diverse online encyclopedia? On Wednesday, November 20, Wikipedia experts from Ireland and the Basque Country will give a crash course in ‘Writing and editing wiki articles’ in the City Chest. Special focus will be on stories about lesser-known women in Frisian, Basque and Irish – all languages and regions that are part of the international WikiWomen project.

Traditionally, women have been underrepresented in history books, archives and libraries, so their achievements often remain underexposed. On Wikipedia – the world’s largest online platform – that same thing still happens. Articles are mainly written by men, about men. That has to change. It can change. In the Stadskas we are going to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Rosie the Riveter style. After the experts have taught you the tricks of the Wiki trade, a so-called edit-a-thon will follow: together we will write as many new articles as possible about inspiring women, specifically for publication on the Frisian Wikipedy. An evening for everyone who wants to learn about the power of Wikipedia as well as contribute to a more inclusive, diverse and Frisian online world!

It isn’t mandatory to sign up, but we’d appreciate it when you let us know you will join us through this form: https://forms.gle/92BcBYUPtnrnpSfv8.
