Dinner time! Laure cooks traditional Syrian dishes

Laure has been living with her children in the Asylum Center in Leeuwarden for almost a year. What does she miss about her homeland, Syria? Being together during the holidays, the many delicacies served at the table and the choir music of the Syrian Church. Did you know: in pre-war Syria, people of different religions mostly lived together peacefully and even celebrated each other’s holidays?

On Monday, Nov. 11, Laure will share memories of her homeland with visitors to the Folkskeuken like you, during a communal meal. Together with volunteers, she will cook some traditional Syrian dishes. She will also bring a unique band: talented Syrian musicians from the Asylum Center in Leeuwarden will bring the sound of Syria to the Stadskas.

From 18:00 you can join, and at 18:30 — we eat. Dinner is served! Buy your ticket through our Pay What You Can system.

About the Folkskeuken

Folkskeuken is about dining together at long tables, opposite friends old and new. At every edition, a host – supported by our own cook – prepares their favorite dish from their own culture. The host also shares their personal story: what the dish means to them, how they ended up in Leeuwarden, how they keep their cultural treasures alive, how they feel at home in Leeuwarden, and how they see the future. With Folkskeuken, we celebrate other cultures not because they are different from Dutch culture, but because they have a place at the table within it.

Folkskeuken and Folkscafé are supported by Over de Drempel and Cultuurfonds Fryslân, and are partners with Onze Familie in Leeuwarden and Solidair Friesland.
