Mourning together in silence
De Literaire Rouwdienst (The Literary Memorial Service) offers a space to come together and grieve collectively. In silence—because there is so little of it—and together—because there is so much loneliness among those who mourn. Take a seat on the cushions in the former Westerkerk and allow space for your sorrow.
On April 28, the first edition of the Literary Memorial Service will take place, creating room to grieve in silence. The initiators of this service are writers Mees van Rijswijk, Preston Losack, and Marrit Jellema (City Poet of Leeuwarden). The service will last one hour, during which Mees, Preston, and Marrit will each recite a poem that resonates with the theme. The rest of the time is held in silence. After the service, there will be an opportunity to talk with one another and enjoy coffee and tea.
