On April 30th, the usually cozy Kleine Bagijn will transform into a grand literary battleground.
After the previous edition—where words flew around us both figuratively and literally—it’s time for the second preliminary round of the Poetry Slam!
The evening will go as follows: we start with an introductory round. Each poet gets 5 minutes to showcase their work. After that, the audience votes for their two favorites. The poets who advance to the next round get another 5 minutes to impress. Then, another voting round follows, leading up to… the grand finale! In this final round, the two audience favorites go head-to-head in a real slam. They take turns performing their very best pieces, building up the tension. The poet who receives the most roses in the air will be crowned the winner of the night! The champion follows in Poelier’s footsteps and qualifies for the local grand final on July 2nd, where they have a shot at a ticket to the national semi-finals of the Dutch Poetry Slam Championship!
Everyone is welcome—whether you’re an experienced slammer or just want to give it a try. And don’t worry: yes, it’s a competition, but it’s really all about celebrating poetry (and all poets are kind). Want to participate, or still unsure and in need of a pep talk?
