A comical, musical, and psychedelic quest for inspiration
After the success of LORCA (a show about Spanish poet Federico García Lorca), the Poezieboys and poet Joost Oomen now delve into the marvelous world of inspiration. Everyone has to deal with it at some time or another, whether you’re an accountant, roofer or artist. Sometimes you get, as it is so nicely called, “the spirit.” Artists hang their entire existence on this slippery, nebulous, can’t-quite-put-your-finger-on-it thing. In GEESTEN, the Poezieboys and Joost Oomen delve into the search for that thing, for that spirit – and they do so in their trademark droll and often hilarious playful style, full of whimsically associative leaps of thought, music and unexpected twists.
What is inspiration? It seems like a boring process. A poet stares out the window and pens something about a bird. But poets really don’t just stare out their windows to get inspiration. But, just how does inspiration work? Where does it come from? And why does it seem to work for some and not for others? In today’s controlled society, is there actually room for something as elusive as inspiration? What beautiful things arise when we all let go of control?
Some poets believe that inspiration comes from outside themselves – from Martians, ghosts or phantoms who pass on poetry. The poet’s job is to translate this alien language into poetry as best he can. But if the poet is merely a conduit, who bears responsibility for what appears on paper? In GEESTEN, the Poezieboys and Joost Oomen explore these mysterious forces with humor, wonder and a good dose of fun.
