Universal connection between man and nature
IT DEEL is the multi-year project of the Kleefstra Bros together with Popfabryk under the auspices of Explore the North. In each edition, the Kleefstra brothers (themselves poets and musicians) work with guest musicians for several days in the Thomas Church in Katlijk near Oranjewoud on new material, which is then presented on the last day of the residency, later to be released by Moving Furniture Records.
How do you translate the degradation of the little piece of Frisian earth where Oranjewoud is located into a positive story? IT DEEL answers that key question in four inspiring attempts. The Kleefstra Bros’ deeply-rooted mission is to create awareness of the universal connection between man and nature. To this end, they use the means at their disposal: poetry and music.
IT DEEL III took place in July 2023, for which the Kleefstra Bros invited Belgian drummer and multi-instrumentalist Karen Willems. Nature, landscape and connection is an important theme in her work. Willems moves between collage art, shamanism and a kind of futuristic ritualism.
No two concerts are the same when it comes to improvisation, and this company will show that once again during Explore the North Festival 2024. IT DEEL is always an adventure.
