No one knows how to start a fire anymore
Dancer and playwright Gaja Caruso performs her new show, Men of Meat and Fire, her very first solo performance. In it, she explores the breaking point of the radicalizing person with intensely-felt choreography.
Men of Meat and Fire is a multidisciplinary dance performance about a man who claims no one knows how to start a fire anymore, a man who places himself outside of society. Men of Meat and Fire is a performance about loneliness, misogyny, self-hatred and the crisis of masculinity.
Last year, Gaja Caruso found a man’s diary full of reflections on the book “The Game” by pick-up artist Neil Strauss. She became fascinated by his writing and delved further into the world of incels (involuntary celibates): people with the inability to find a romantic or sexual partner but would like to.
Men of Meat and Fire embodies the mind of an incel. How does the woman in the head of an incel move? And what is her breaking point?
Gaja Caruso is a solid fixture in Explore the North’s programming with her exciting interdisciplinary work. She is developing into one of the North’s most important choreographers.
This project is made possible by Station Noord, Grand Theatre and Club Guy & Roni.
