If we’re being totally honest

Desire takes place at twilight, the transition from night to day, dark to light. It’s the moment when possibilities become visible. What thoughts and doubts arise during this so-called “blue hour”? In a hushed performance, four lonely souls – stripped of all fuss – take us into their personal thoughts, fears and desires. They open up to each other about things they wouldn’t normally discuss. In Desire, they do, and they find out that they’re actually quite similar. And like us—if we’re being totally honest.

After the solo performance Serenade (selected for #nieuwjong by Het TheaterFestival 2021) and the duet Analoog with Willem de Wolf/De HOE (selection for Het TheaterFestival and Nederlands Theater Festival 2023), Louis Janssens has now created the performance, Desire, with a group of young queer actors. This minimalist, playful, and personal performance makes the deeply human longing for connection tangible. Desire was selected as one of the best Flemish performances of the year at Het Theaterfestival.

“They show more than just their bodies. They show their souls, what moves them, what their longings and disappointments are. Desire delivers beautiful sentences, meaningful silences, and loving touches.” – De Volkskrant ****
