Marrit Jellema won the Spoken Award in 2019 for ‘lyrics’. Her debut album, superpersoonlijk, came out in June 2021, and in September 2021 she found herself in the Dutch National Championship – Poetry Slam Finals. Her second album, Voor Altijd, was released in early 2023. Marrit participated in the Urban Arts Talent program from the Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie from April 2021 to February 2023 to further develop as an artist. She regularly gives poetry and spoken word workshops, organizes the ‘Hoge Woorden’ events with Explore the North and Leeuwarden City of Literature, and appears on stages all over the country. On January 30, 2024, Marrit was named Poet Laureate of Leeuwarden.
