Explore the North and Grand Theatre from the Northern Netherlands are part of the Oproer network. Through Explore the North and Grand Theatre, the collective Drie Dagen Fris—consisting of Marieke Ornelis, Mees van Rijswijk and Johannes Lievens—is affiliated with this network.
Oproer is committed to creating more opportunities for emerging artists who are looking for venues and audiences. It is a nationwide initiative that supports up-and-coming theatre makers in production, marketing and audience engagement, with a focus on building sustainable careers. Together, we provide a platform for the development of new productions and facilitate the exchange of these works throughout the Netherlands. We aim to make the Dutch theatre landscape more personal, younger and more accessible by highlighting the person behind the performance. In doing so, we stimulate interaction and connection between audiences, makers and theatres or other venues.
We also increase the number of performance venues across the Netherlands by collaborating within the initiative. For theatres outside the network, this offers the opportunity to programme innovative work without taking on the adventure alone. By working together, we create opportunities for new talent to grow and increase their visibility. We foster an environment in which both makers and audiences come together, grow and form a community that spreads throughout the Netherlands.
Oproer is a collaboration between eight production houses in the Netherlands: Likeminds, Podium Bloos, Werkplaats Walhalla, Karavaan, VIA ZUID, Theater de Generator, De Nieuwe Oost and Station Noord. The network emerged in response to increasing pressure within the theatre industry: with diminishing financial resources, it has become increasingly difficult for emerging makers to find places where they can present and develop their talent.
Oproer is made possible by the VriendenLoterij Fonds, thanks to an additional donation from the VriendenLoterij.
