Zea, Explore the North & Popfabryk - In lichem fol beloften (preview)

Tickets go on sale May 23 via Oerol.nl

Zea, aka Arnold de Boer, is previewing his new show and album In lichem fol beloften at this year’s Oerol, to be released next fall, in collaboration with Explore the North and Popfabryk. A three-piece band full of top musicians and beautiful Frisian-language poetry.

Zea grasps time, stretches it, pushes rhythms into pulsating circles, pulls tones from the ground and conjures lyrics from his toes. In lichem fol promises becomes like a dance to conjure bodies, expel pain and checkmate death. A cadence of drums and strings, a minimal trance of guitar, cello, clarinet and drums. At Oerol, Zea will play with clarinetist Xavier Charles and drummer Ineke Duivenvoorde in the cozy setting of the West-End Theater.

Curious about more? The full project with sixteen-piece drum band will be presented at Explore the North festival in Leeuwarden (November 21 – 23, 2025).

This performance is part of the Explore the North-Hub. From June 13 – 22, we will present work by talents connected to our production house spread across the island. Explore the North is a production house and festival based at Podium Explore in Leeuwarden.

Arnold de Boer (a.o. Zea and The Ex) has a prolific career as a musician and singer. Over the past twenty-four years he has performed in over forty countries on six continents and it is striking that wherever he goes, he likes to sing Frisian as well. He is a musician, a poet and a traveler, who sees language as a source of uncertainty and plurality. Language as a form of music that works against rigid brains.
