Maha Eljak (Sneek, 2001) is a multidisciplinary maker working with music, text and image. In her work she explores themes such as identity, diaspora and resistance. With her zine Mahazine, she creates space for stories and perspectives that are often missing, challenging dominant images and stereotypes. In recent years her focus has been primarily on zines and visual work, but she is increasingly turning her attention to music and developing her own sound. She is working on a new project where everything comes together: an EP and a new edition of Mahazine. In it she explores ‘joy’ as something that can exist alongside pain and conflict and in doing so becomes a form of strength and resistance.
