The marching band is coming along!
Minimalist, eclectic and poetic, with a strange edge. That’s the music of Zea, aka Frisian singer-songwriter Arnold de Boer, who is also the frontman of The Ex. His music is intimate, sincere and poetic, yet at other times highly energetic, urgent, idiosyncratic and driven by syncopated, trance-like guitar playing. He recorded his latest album in Frisian, In lichem fol beloften, with Drumband Hallelujah from his hometown of Makkum, which also counts his 80-year-old father among its members. Good news: the entire fifteen-piece marching band is coming along to Cultura Nova. Because of the ensemble’s size, this is a truly unique occasion. Expect a wondrous encounter between avant-garde music and the comforting rattle of percussion.
